Ok, so this topic has been kicked around my circle of friends for a bit and this weekend it came full circle to being a topic in my house.
Is this whole Craft Beer thing a hobby or an obsession?
The topic came up when I decided to take a picture of part of my cellar for a contest which is being ran by Fresh Beer Inc. I proudly lined up a majority of the beers that I had in my cellar to take a picture to submit to the contest. While I will admit I was sort of taken back by the volume, I also realize that others have just as bad of a "problem".
While the photo shoot was being conducted, The Cerveza Chica came home and saw what I was doing and said simply "YOU'RE CRAZY". Yep, she thinks this whole thing is an OBSESSION.

I disagree though, like I said on this weeks past episode of United We Drink, I think that collecting beer is no different from collecting comics, baseball cards, or even wine.
I want to hear from you about what you think.
Is this a hobby or an obsession?

This is a hobby just like baseball cards and comics how long will it last no one knows. Wine is still a hobby it has declined over the past years do to the economy and the cost of good wine. The best thing about wine and beer over comics and baseball cards is if you get tired of collecting you can drink it.
ReplyDeleteYou should have said "You're obsessed with Festina Peche!". I don't think my wife cares whether it's an obsession or a hobby. She just knows it's expensive, takes up too much space and isn't helping me lose any weight. I consider it a hobby but at times gets obsessive. Some things you just absolutely must have.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't consider it an obsession. It's just like what you said about collecting baseball cards as a kid, just a little more expensive. Now a lot of my friends who aren't into the craft beer scene tend to make fun at me a little just to push my buttons. I suppose it's the collective side of my personality. I'm not trying to drink every night of the week, I only have drinks on Friday and Saturday night and if there's a tasting on Sunday then I won't drink Saturday. My girlfriend doesn't mind the hobby all that much, but I'm sure she thinks it's a little crazy, plus the beer fridge is sort of an eye sore to her, but my beer needs a safe home.
ReplyDeleteI might be one of the only people to openly admit I am at least a bit obsessed with it. I love craft beer and to go to all the trouble I do with getting beer, attending events, volunteering at events, doing a blog, doing a podcast and so on and so forth that I have to be some what obsessed. I don't think it is an addiction. I don't need it. I really like it and enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteSome really good responses today.
ReplyDeleteBustta: I agree 100% with your statement
Joel: You don't need to lose any weight....I think ur sexy just how u are!
Casey: Allow her to paint the fridge, and make it all pretty. But it will still be a safe place for the beer
Mike: Shut your mouth....(but good idea to listen to the full conversation on episode 4 of United We Drink!)
