Creme Brulee Imperial Milk Stout

Creme Brulee (Imperial Milk Stout)
Southern Tier Brewing Company
Lakewood, NY
9.20% ABV
Style: American Double/Imperial Stout

C: Super Dark
H: BLACKKKKKKKK
N: Once again dessert in a glass; Toffee, Caramel, Sugar

The Ferm; Had this bad boy off draft from The Coffee District in Delray Beach. Served in a bad ass St. Bernardus "Pimp Cup" aka chalice. Like the Kuhnhenn which was reviewed yesterday this beer is just like shoving your face in a huge dish of Creme Brulee.
The taste of the beer follows to a tee the way it smells. Southern Tier could rename this beer Toffee because that flavor overpowers everything on the initial attack. Don't get me wrong I like Toffee but JEEEZZZZZZ. Hints of caramel and coffee linger but nothing that stands out. This would be pretty challenging to drink a whole bomber by myself. Though I think I could handle it.
Overall I felt that the Kuhnhenn Creme Brulee was better simply because it was more balanced all around. Although I would not discount the Southern Tier version. They are both VERY GOOD!
Score: 4.160

  1. This stuff is heaven in a bottle as far as I am concerned. Too sweet to have with any regularity, but a fantastic treat once or twice a year.

I thought it tasted just like creme brulee. Funny that I enjoyed the beer so much and I'm not a huge creme brulee fan!

  2. If I can describe that beer in one word it would be "Butterscotch." Absolutely like drinking down butterscotch. Why anyone likes this beer, I don't know. It does hide the 9.2% ABV well, though.

  3. Put this in my fridge last night. I guess I'll wait at least a few days to drink it now. Don't want to be the copy-cat. :)

Anyway, based on what you've said, I might even invite my wife to give it a try. Imagine that. Now that would be epic!

  5. Usually I don't like my beer super cold so I can pick out the bits and pieces that make up the flavor profile, but having this one slightly icey cuts down on the massive sugar dose. I can drink a bomber of this if its chilly, just like you want your milk ice cold when you drink it with chocolate chip cookies! Just a heads up guys, the Bitches is on the way. Just keep in mind that it's an aging beer when you're drinking it fresh. Punkin is extra tasty this year, and Chateau Jiahu is on its way. If you've never had it, or are interested in knowing more about another DfH ancient ale... http://www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits/the-brews/occassional-rarities/chateau-jiahu.htm

    Cheers! MM

  6. Putting down a whole bomber of this would require a long nap afterwards. I really loved this one and would love to try the Kuhnhenn Creme Brulee.

  7. Yeah this is good in small doses but it is just too sweet to have a bunch of. Still a very good brew.

  8. Agreed....I think this is a great seasonal treat.

Most seasonal beers I would request be made year round....but this is a treat to look forward to every year
