Marco from St. Bernardus was in town from Belgium and swung by to speak about his wonderful nectar from heaven; St. Bernardus Beer!
There was a wonderful beer and cheese tasting while Marco talked about his experiences with the brewing industry and growing the brand that is so well known across the globe.
Some of the interesting things he said last night included the new expansion plan for the company. Moving to Australia and Russia hopefully soon. He also spoke about how beers such as the Christmas Seasonal came about; it was originally a special release of Abt. 12 that was so popular they decided to do it every year.
The fire-side chat was about two hours long, but once it was over Marco stayed around to drink and be merry with many of the fans that came to hear him talk.
When asked about the American Beer Industry, well Marco stated a few interesting things. He feels that while in Belgium they may make the best beer, American is the best place to experience a beer. He said that we really respect and embrace beers from all over which is amazing. He also wished that each brewery would focus on a smaller line of offerings and master them instead of trying to brew 10+ different types of beer per brewery. One thing he would change about the American Industry, well that would be the length of fermentation time per beer. He believes that as American Brewers we try to turn our beer quicker thus not reaching full potential of the product.
It was a pleasure to meet Marco and spend some quality time with other bloggers and beer lovers at this event!
Who knows what will come of last night.....Mike from MikeLovesBeer.com was there and we spoke about a few new ideas.......HhhhMmmmm?!?!
